Children at Weaverham Primary Academy wear their hearts on their sleeves for Mental Health Week
Positive pupils have learned how to look after their mental health during a week of wellbeing at Weaverham Primary Academy.
Youngsters were encouraged to ‘find their brave’ and to consider other people’s feelings as part of Children’s Mental Health Week.
They took part in exercise classes, workshops and relaxation sessions, and wore clothes inside out reflect the fact that people may feel distressed inside despite looking well on the outside.
Head of School Jo Price said: “We’ve been looking at how important it is to keep a healthy mind and body.
“All classes, including pre-school, have looked at strategies to relax and stay calm. Some also took part in yoga and physical activity as well as looking at what makes us brave.
“They learned about the ‘inside out’ characters and discussed different emotions, and how they might feel in certain situations.
“You never know how people feel inside, so it’s important to always be kind.”
The Northwich Road school became part of North West Academies Trust (NWAT) a year ago and an ambitious drive to lift standards across the board was launched.
Weaverham now benefits from sharing resources with several other high-performing NWAT schools across Cheshire and Shropshire.
A broad and exciting programme of education, based in and out of the classroom, has been adopted, as well as a focus on keeping children healthy and active.
A pre-school, rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, has moved to the site and funds have been secured to repair and improve the school’s facilities.
Among the other NWAT schools is Delamere Academy, near Northwich, which is ranked the highest performing primary in West Cheshire according to the latest performance tables.
In Chester there is Acresfield Primary School, which is second-highest performing, and St Martin’s Academy, which is the most over-subscribed school in Cheshire West.
