Poppy Power

We have had a lovely week in Kingfisher this week, learning all about Remembrance Day and why it is important. We made a beautiful poppy wreath and shared this in assembly, together with a gorgeous performance of our Poppy Song. I was so proud of the class – they were fantastic. We continued the poppy theme in art too, where we practiced our sketching skills before producing perfect poppy pastel pictures which were mounted onto a montage of war photos.

We have moved onto a new topic in Maths – Money, honey! We will be developing our addition and subtraction skills throughout this unit and will be drawing on our previous learning of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

We have marked Engineering Week with building motorised tanks in small teams. The children really enjoyed this activity and were amazed to see their creations whizz across the table!

We have moved onto our next book in English and found a clue hiding underneath a plant pot – a golden key! At the moment, we don’t know what it is for, or what it unlocks but we are looking forward to finding out. We know that one of the characters is called Syd, but we don’t know who he is yet! The children made their own predictions, with many thinking that Syd might be a keen gardener and the golden key unlocks his greenhouse. We shared ideas on the concept of a magic golden key and if we had one of our own, what would it unlock? There were lots of magic portals leading to mystical lands including Chocolate World and Unicorn Land! Next week, all will be revealed and we will hopefully get to find out who Syd is and where the golden key leads to…..

Have a great weekend, see you next week!
